Hi, I’m Kristin and I’m the writer, artisan and owner of A Simply Enchanted Life. A Simply Enchanted Life was first started in 2008 as a way to share handmade soap and jewelry. I had been looking for a way to afford for my girls to take violin lessons that they were begging for and since I was already milling soap and making gifts for my family—I decided that I could open a shop to share handmade gifts with others.
During those early months on Etsy, I never dreamed of blogging or reviewing or in joining my interests under one banner. I have always been a reader. As a child I was often encouraged to stop reading and to spend more time outdoors, playing. My response to that was to put a book in the basket of my bike and riding to a favorite tree that I would prop myself up under and I would read until I heard my mother calling me in for supper.
One day a friend asked me a question that would forever change my life, “Have you ever thought about reviewing books?” She went on to explain that all I needed was a blog and a love for reading. I could do that! From that point on I started building my connections and the books started pouring in from publishers, authors and third party public relationship groups. I am so blessed to have been selected to take part in author street teams and even had a soap recipe published in an Amish book in 2010.
As a DIY kind of girl and a mom of six wonderful children, I’ve found that I have more things than ever to blog about. From recipes to healthy living, this blog has grown into my passion. It’s a way to express myself and to bare my heart to the world. This is my life and I’m simply enchanted with it. I hope in some way that the books I read or the content I share can be a blessing or a help to others.
As my online presence has grown; so has my desire to share even the not-so-fun aspects of our lives. If I planned to bare my soul in all topics under faith, family and fiction…I needed to start being upfront about all the daily aspects of life with a large family. In 2014 one of my daughters was approved for physical therapy due to her inability to keep up with her peers and for her a significant pigeon toe. Like me, we found out that she is hypermobile. This also followed an asthma diagnosis. Then in 2015 my toddler started having problems. She also was diagnosed as hypermobile and then my other children started being diagnosed as well. As a result—we are now looking at a bigger picture. This has led to our discovery of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and we’re looking for answers and an official diagnosis. It is my hope to start educating others about the struggles that my children are facing and to raise awareness about this disorder.
No matter the reason you’ve chosen to join my community and read my blog; whether it is my passion for books, my shop or to read about our life journey, I want to say “Thank you!” From the bottom of my heart I appreciate you, my friends, my supporters and my readers who make A Simply Enchanted Life possible.
